Home Delivery My @$$
When it absolutely positively has to be there overnight...Go pick it up at their depot two days later.
Welcome to another week in Bogworld.
First a bit of a rant. I dont want to get sued but there is this delivery service who’s name rhymes with Zed-Ex (I changed the name so they dont sue me). My only proof that they are a delivery service is that it says so on the side of their trucks and planes. But as for my personal experience, they have not successfully delivered anything to me in three years. Nothing. Not one.
I’m a normal American consumer. I buy a thingamajig or a whatsis from Amazon or Apple every now and then. And sometimes I unwittingly have to rely on Zed-Ex to bring me those somethings. I’ve even paid extra so they can rush the object to me. But no matter the case, the delivery guys fail to deliver.
I started to notice this about four years ago when I lived in a town house shared with a friend who owned a small yipping hyper dog. Nothing passed within 100 feet of the house without the little snorting pug dog alerting us. Nothing. Once a turtle crawled out of the woods across the street and somehow the dog noticed from inside the house and barked at it. No kidding. So when a delivery from Zed-Ex failed to be delivered I called the depot. They said that they attempted to deliver my package three times and gave up. If I did not drive to the depot to pick it up in 48 hours they would send the package back to business who sent it. I pointed out that I was home sick during the time they claimed to attempt to deliver it. Not only was I home with a yipping guard dog. But I was laying on the couch four feet from the one and only door literally under the door bell. There is no way there was an attempt to deliver anything. Let alone three attempts.
I’ve since moved out on my own. I live in a really nice condo complex that has a security door system. Anyone who wants to visit or deliver a package must use the phone at the entrance to get in. I do not have a land line so the security phone calls my iPhone. Wherever I am. I have had plenty of things delivered to this building by other services. But the folks at Zed-Ex have never called. They just either say an attempt was made or they dont say anything at all. I end up calling the depot and they say there were multiple attempts and now if I want my stuff I have to come get it at the depot myself.
I pointed out to the person on the phone that this is virtually impossible. My building requires a phone call to get in past the security system. I, like most people with any modern phone, logs every call that comes in and not one of them was from the security entry system, How did they attempt a delivery without attempting to call me to let them into the building. Does driving by the building count as an attempt?
This happened again this week. I was waiting for a package and the company only offered Zed-Ex as their only delivery option. I knew the package was on its way so I waited to see how this time around would turn out. I am nothing if not a forgiving person and any company can win me back with a moment of good service. So I was patient and took a lets wait and see attitude toward this new instance.
Days passed. No word. No call. No evidence that any delivery attempt was made. I went down to the buildings lobby to pick up my mail and by chance I noticed a scrap of paper sitting on top of the large bank of dozens and dozens of mail boxes. The scrap was nowhere near my mailbox. I just picked it up intending to throw it out. It turned out to be a Zed-Ex door sticker. A door sticker with my name on it. It said that a delivery attempt was made but failed and I needed to go to the depot to get my package.
I was impressed that they got all the way inside the building this time. ten yards down the hall they could have left the package with the building manager. Up a flight of stairs they could have left it at my actual door. But no. That was a bridge too far. Instead they put the door sticker on top of a band of dozens of mailboxes no where near my mail box. It was sheer dumb luck that I spotted it at all.
The next day I drove down to the Zed-Ex depot. I told myself I was not going to say anything. Life is short and its good enough that I will never knowingly use Zed-Ex as a delivery service again. The post office has a lot of problems but they are stunningly good at actually delivering things to my home. They have my loyalties completely now.
I was not going to say a thing... But then the clerk behind the desk at Zed-Ex snottily said, “You know this is slated to go back today. You’re lucky you got here when you did.” I saw her pull my little package out of a pile of about two dozen other packages that they failed to deliver. Her tone demanded a response.
“Lucky?” I said. “Your delivery guy made no serious attempt at all to get this package to me. No call. Certainly not three tries to get this package to me as the notice that was not stuck to my door says they do. So how is it lucky that I took time off from my work day to get a package that was supposed to be delivered to my home. That I paid to be delivered to my home. And I still have to drive across town to get it from you?” She was a bit stunned. I am sure they are used to people just putting up with this nonsense. “She offered to pass my complaint onto the the driver. I said if I thought it would make a difference I would. But I don’t. These days I think its far more effective to flame the company on the web.
If this has happened to you. Don’t bring your business to them. Help out the US Postal service. People who actually deliver things to your home.
